What’s happening now?

This project is in the design phase, and construction is expected to begin in Spring 2021.

Project Background

In 2018, TriMet added new bus service (line 74) on 162nd Ave. The goals of the 162nd Avenue Safety and Access to Transit Project are:

  • Improve pedestrian crossings near transit stops
  • Increase safety through street design and reduce illegal speeding
  • Enhance bicycle facilities

To accomplish these goals, the project will:

  • Build three new pedestrian street crossings serving TriMet’s new Line 74 bus stops, and four that service people crossing the street to access shopping or schools.
  • Reduce vehicle travel lanes to create new places to cross the street and discourage illegal speeding
  • Add sidewalk where it is missing, street lighting at new crossings, and enhancements to existing bike lanes.

Pavement paving was also added to this project in Fall 2020. SE 162nd between SE Division Street and SE Powell Boulevard will be paved as part of this project thanks to the Fixing Our Streets gas tax.
