Overview
SE 128th Avenue provides access to two David Douglas schools (Gilbert Park Elementary School and Alice Ott Middle School) and is classified as a Neighborhood Walkway and City Bikeway. It is also a Local Transit Service Street, with TriMet's Route 10 accessible at SE Foster.
Despite these characteristics, SE 128th lacks safe, comfortable, and continuous sidewalks between SE Foster and SE Ramona. This project will construct continuous sidewalks on SE 128th between Foster and Ramona, to improve conditions for people walking to and from Gilbert Park Elementary and Alice Ott Middle School in the Powellhurst-Gilbert and Pleasant Valley neighborhoods. In addition to sidewalks, the project will also plant trees, address stormwater, and consider lighting on the street.
This project is funded through the Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF) Collaborating for Climate Action program.

Project Background
The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) identified this segment of SE 128th Avenue as an important connection for students and families attending Gilbert Park Elementary School and Alice Ott Middle School in the David Douglas School District. Members of the school community highlighted the challenges of walking and biking this corridor during a 2017 Safe Routes to School outreach process.
You can read more about the Safe Routes to School planning process and see a map of citywide project locations on this webpage.
