Pride and Darcelle XV Public Street Plazas

What's happening now?

Our contractor is installing surface artwork and site furnishings at Darcelle XV Promenade. They will install planters at both plaza sites in late September.

Installation of overhead lighting and artwork at Darcelle XV Promenade is tentatively scheduled for late 2026 due to extended supply times.

Project Background

We are upgrading the existing car-free Pride Plaza on SW Harvey Milk Street between 13^th and 12^th avenues and building a new plaza on SW 9^th Avenue between Harvey Milk and Washington streets. 

This project will feature durable, high-quality materials and represents PBOT's first example of the "permanent street plaza typology."

Darcelle XV Promenade on SW 9th Avenue will be next to Darcelle XV Plaza. This street plaza includes a portion of the future Green Loop, a linear park and multiuse path that will connect the Central City.

PBOT worked with plaza stakeholders on the specific features of these spaces. The upgraded plazas will include:

• Artwork celebrating pride and Darcelle XV
• Public space for walking, biking, driving, relaxing, or playing
• Street furniture such as benches, chairs, or tables
• Space for outdoor dining or events
• Plants

PBOT repaved and installed new ADA-compliant curb ramps at Pride Plaza in summer 2025 to support the refreshed design.

Project Funding

$1.8 million from a $1.2 million grant from the federal Economic Development Administration matched with $600,000 in local transportation system development charges and general transportation revenue.
