August 19, 2025 Update
Contractors with PBOT have begun swapping out street light bulbs. They've completed the south side light upgrades and are beginning north side upgrades.
In the coming weeks, contractors will install street light arms on existing poles and new street light poles.
During construction, traffic impacts will be minimal and will include temporary parking restrictions and lane shifts near the contractor's work zone.
Project Background
Portland’s High Crash Network makes up 8% of Portland’s streets and is where 57% of serious injuries crashes and fatalities occur. Using a data-driven Vision Zero approach, PBOT has identified street lighting as a critical improvement to make these streets safer. Recent analysis indicates a number of our High Crash Network streets in some of our most diverse neighborhoods lack adequate street lighting. In addition, public engagement work by PBOT has found that people of color feel less safe walking on poorly lit streets.
This project will improve streetlighting on NE Killingsworth Street from 42nd Avenue to Lombard Street.
Project Funding
$1 million from Fixing Our Streets.
