What's happening now?
September 2024 Update
Contractors with the Portland Bureau of Transportation have completed civil work and some striping work. The remaining work includes installing tubular markers, removing the westbound merge lane arrow, installing the eastside crosswalk, installing signs and cleaning up the work zone. We anticipate work will be complete by the end of October.
Thanks for your patience while we complete these intersection improvements!
July 2024 Update
Contractors with the Portland Bureau of Transportation will begin construction on Monday, August 5. Construction is expected to last approximately two months.
Construction crews will begin to demo and pour concrete for new ramps on the north side of the intersection in early August. When corners on the north side are complete, contractors will move to the south side.
During construction, 80th Avenue immediately north and south of Glisan may be closed periodically to vehicle traffic. Please follow all signed detours.
May 2024 Update
The project team has completed a revised concept design and will finalize the design in the coming months.
March 2024 Update
The project team has completed an initial concept design and conducted outreach about the design.
Project overview
For this project, PBOT will make pedestrian safety improvements at NE Glisan Street at NE 80th Avenue, including ADA curb ramps, marked crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and street lighting improvements.
Parking impacts
This project includes minor parking programming changes, which were informed by engagement with neighboring businesses. Some blocks will update from the current 1-hour time limit to a 2-hour time limit. One ADA parking space will be added as part of the project, and the project will result in the addition of one general parking space to the area. Two to three parking spaces will be added to the north side of Glisan just east of 80th, where there is currently a merge lane. One to two parking spaces will be removed from the south side of Glisan just west of 80th, to improve pedestrian visibility and safety.
In coordination with this PBOT project, TriMet is removing two bus stops at 80th and Glisan.
Traffic impacts
This project will shorten the westbound merge lane on Glisan approaching the 80th Avenue intersection. At the intersection, left turns will continue to be permitted from all directions. After construction, people driving east or west on Glisan will be able to make a left turn onto 80th from the travel lane, instead of the center turn lane.
Project timeline
Construction will begin on Monday, August 5, and is expected to take two months.
