What’s happening now?

This project is currently under construction.

March 2024 update : The construction contractor is currently working on SE Flavel Streets. They will be clearing the area, removing vegetation, and preparing sites for new sidewalks and curb ramps. Travelers can expect minor travel delays and detours along SE Flavel Streets between SE 52nd and SE 82nd avenues.

Project Components, Purpose, and History

This project will fill gaps in the sidewalk network on both sides of SE Duke and Flavel streets between SE 52nd and 82nd avenues, improving comfort and accessibility. The project will also add additional crosswalks along SE Duke and Flavel streets, increasing pedestrian visibility.

The project will also install a new neighborhood greenway on portions of Knapp and Ogden streets between SE 52nd and SE 87th avenues, including a new signalized crossing of SE 82nd Avenue and an enhanced crossing of 72nd Avenue at SE Ogden Street. Neighborhood greenways are low-traffic and low-speed streets that prioritize people walking, bicycling, and rolling. Along with added signage to improve wayfinding, this new neighborhood greenway will complement the existing and/or funded north-south 60s, 70s and 80s neighborhood greenways.

Collectively, this project will improve access to several local schools and parks including:

  • Woodmere Elementary School
  • Whitman Elementary School
  • Lane Middle School
  • Brentwood Park
  • Flavel Park
