Design in 2023-2024 and Construction in Summer 2025

Construction Schedule

This project is currently in early design. The design phase will last through the spring of 2025 and construction is anticipated in summer 2025.

Project Scope & Background

This project will improve safety at the intersection of SE Flavel Street and SE 72nd  Avenue in the Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood. This location was identified as having a high incidence of left turn crashes, with more than 40% of crashes being coded as left turning. Additionally, more than 50% of crashes occurred at night. The project will add left hand turn signals and dedicated phases, as well as reflectorized back plates to signal heads and additional illumination at the intersection. Corner ramps will be upgraded to current ADA standards, and poor pavement conditions will be addressed.

The project is currently funded through the All Roads Transportation Safety (ARTS) program administered by the Oregon Department of Transportation, and a local match from the City of Portland. In early scoping, PBOT and ODOT staff identified this as a high benefit-to-cost ratio safety project.
