Crews and contractors with the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) will reconstruct and repave SW Fourth Avenue between SW Lincoln and W Burnside streets. Improvements include a protected bikeway, a bus-and-turn lane, safer pedestrian crossings, upgraded ADA ramps, and better street lighting.

What’s happening now?

Design for the SW Fourth Avenue project is currently wrapping up. In addition to repaving the roadway, the project design includes pedestrian crossing upgrades, and the addition of a protected bike lane and bus lane, as recommended in Central City in Motion. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2023 and last for approximately 18 months.

Project Funding

The SW Fourth Avenue Improvement project is funded by the voter-approved 10-cent gas tax known as Fixing Our Streets, maintenance funds, as well as transportation system development charges, with additional contributions from Prosper Portland and TriMet. The total project budget is $16.9 million.
