What's happening now?
Construction is substantially complete. Minor "punchlist" items are underway. TriMet expects to resume service soon. Transit riders should check www.trimet.org for impacts.
Project Overview
This project provided permanent curb extensions and improved bus shelters on SW Alder Street at 10th and 6th avenues.
The curb extensions improve transit speed and reliability by allowing bus operators to serve stops without being delayed by other vehicles as they reenter traffic. The curb extensions are extra-long to accommodate articulated buses with multiple-door entry and exit for potential future transit service expansion.
Both bus stops are equipped with repurposed MAX shelters featuring lighting, real-time bus arrival updates, and space for more riders.
The project also rebuilt the southwest corner of SW Alder & 10th Avenue to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety.
In 2022, PBOT completed the first phase of the project that rerouted Line 15 to SW Alder Street and added a bus-only lane.
Project funding
$1.6 million from the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund (PCEF), transportation system development charges, and grant funding in partnership with TriMet.
