(Sept. 25, 2026) Crews working with the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) will improve pavement quality of NE Killingsworth Street between Martin Luther King Jr and NE 57th Avenues.

During the week of Sept. 28, temporary periodic lane closures along the corridor will allow for rubberized liquid sealant to be poured into the cracks, known as crack-sealing. Travel lanes (one in each direction) will be open.

As the crew works through the corridor, there will be brief delays for those accessing driveways, crosswalks, or street parking spaces in the traveling work zone. During work hours, expected from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the traveling public is advised to expect delays, travel cautiously, observe all closures and directions by flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible. Local access to residences and businesses will remain available.

Crack sealing keeps water from reaching and damaging the roadway base layers. Timely sealing is cost effective, with sealing adding 3-7 years of extra life to a roadway. Application requires crews to move down each lane separately, addressing cracks at a walking pace. Crack-sealing material cools quickly and can be driven over a matter of minutes after application. Improvements are expected to be completed within the week.

The work is funded by Portland's voter-approved 10-cent gas tax for fixing our streets and making them safer for all.

The schedule is weather dependent and subject to change. This work is approved to coincide with ODOT's I-5 southbound closure.
