Traffic Advisory: Use extreme caution at SE 50th and Lincoln, as detour route removes a traffic diverter on a neighborhood greenway, moves a bus line, and detours traffic for two weeks on SE 50th Ave for SE Division St repaving

(August 24, 2026) The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) advises the traveling public that the traffic diverters located on SE 50th Avenue and Lincoln Street have been moved to the side of the street to accommodate TriMet's bus line 14 detour route from Aug. 24 through Sept. 4 to make way for construction for the Division Repaving Project..

As part of the SE Division Repaving Project, the intersection at SE 50th Avenue and Division Street is closed to through traffic to allow for asphalt repair. To minimize additional public transit disruptions, TriMet's bus line 14 will use SE 52nd Avenue as a detour between SE Lincoln and SE Woodward.

Traffic on SE 50th Avenue will be impacted in both directions, through Sept. 4.

Southbound traffic on SE 50th will be closed a block north of SE Division, today through Friday Aug. 28, and northbound traffic will be closed next week, Aug. 31 through Sept. 4, one block south of SE Division. Travel in the opposite direction will be detoured at SE Division and directed east or west.

The planters used as diverters on SE 50th and Lincoln will be moved back to the center of the street on Sept. 8.

Regional travelers passing through the area on SE 50th Avenue should consider using SE Cesar E Chavez Blvd as an alternate route.

During this time, the travel lanes on SE Division Street will be reduced from two to one, with flaggers controlling the direction of traffic and helping pedestrians across the street.

For those needing to access the immediate area around SE Lincoln, please use caution when traveling on SE Lincoln as it is a Neighborhood Greenway. Two bike buses comprised of families with schoolchildren use the street to get to and from area schools.

Project repaving a busy corridor

The closure makes way for the latest phase of the SE Division Street Repaving Project that is replacing pavement that is wavy, cracked and uneven with new, smooth asphalt that should prevent potholes for years to come.

A PBOT contractor is repaving about a half mile of the busy corridor, including a complete reconstruction of the intersection of SE Division and 50th Avenue, where crews will remove historic trolley tracks that have been undermining the pavement. Some sections will require closures of a single day, and others will require multiple days, as some areas require only a few inches of repaving and others as deep as 7 inches.

Businesses will remain open during the project. Nearly all the corridor will have sidewalks open and accessible, except for times when the corner at SE 50th will be rebuilt.

The schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.

After repaving, crews will move back through the corridor to install signing and striping.

Travelers are advised to expect delays. Obey road closure barricades and follow directions from traffic signs and flaggers.

The work zone has been designed to limit the impact on the busy FX-2 Division bus route and others in the area, but there will be some delays or changes to bus stops. For details on bus service, check trimet.org
