Improvements for a key corridor in the Montavilla neighborhood

(Aug. 14, 2026) The paving season continues for the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT), as crews will start grinding and repaving an estimated 2.1 lane miles on NE Glisan Street, between NE 82nd and NE 92nd avenues, on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
This essential repair work should last approximately 12 business days, although paving work is weather-dependent and the schedule may change.
The pavement maintenance is just the latest phase of the NE Glisan Paving and Safety Project, an effort to improve safety, maintenance and stormwater management on a busy corridor that connects neighborhood destinations, such as Montavilla Park, to Interstate 205.
The work is funded by Portland's voter-approved 10-cent gas tax for fixing our streets and making them safer for all.
Repaving streets creates an opportunity to consider safety improvements and how street space is used. By converting the off-peak parking/travel lanes to buffered bike lanes and installing crossing improvements, this project will enhance access for people walking, biking, and accessing transit on this high crash corridor where 356 crashes took place over a 10-year period.
During construction
Travelers can expect rough roads, traffic delays and detours from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, with the potential for some weekend work. Parking will be restricted one to two days before crews begin and last throughout repairs. Pedestrian access will remain open.
Leading up to the paving work, PBOT crews continue to backfill asphalt around the newly-constructed ADA ramps on the south side of NE Glisan Street. Travelers can expect south side outside lanes to be closed while crews are working and as the hot asphalt mix cools.
Transit riders should check trimet.org for impacts.
The traveling public is advised to expect delays, travel cautiously, observe all closures and directions by flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible. Local access to residences and businesses will remain available.
