(July 23, 2026) The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) advises the traveling public that construction on SW Alder Street is making steady progress as crews upgrade two key transit stops in downtown Portland. PBOT expects to reopen both travel lanes by the end of August.
PBOT's contractor has completed all underground structural and electrical work at both SW 6th and 10th avenues. This was the most difficult part of the project and marks a major milestone for completion.
The steel plates in place at SW 10th Avenue will be removed tomorrow, July 24th.
Next week, PBOT's contractor expects to finish pouring concrete for the new bus stop platforms. They will install electrical equipment and streetlights the first week of August. Pavement repair, signs, and striping are tentatively scheduled to be completed by August 14th.
TriMet will install the new shelters as the last step in the project.
During construction, Portlanders can expect daytime noise and travel delays on SW Alder Street through downtown, particularly during the morning and evening commute. SW Alder Street will remain open with a single travel lane. Transit riders should check www.trimet.org for impacts.
Pedestrians are detoured to avoid the western crosswalk on SW Alder Street at 10th Avenue. Parking is restricted on both sides of SW Alder Street approaching 6th and 10th avenues.
