Fresh pavement follows recent construction of new sidewalks, traffic signals to improve safety on busy Rose City Park neighborhood corridor

(June 15, 2026) The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) advises the traveling public to expect a short duration eastbound lane closure along NE Halsey Street between NE 47th and NE 59th avenues the week of June 15.
A PBOT contractor will be repairing and repaving NE Halsey on the south side of NE 57th Avenue. During the lane closure, local access only will be provided in that direction of travel to the area between NE 47th and 59th avenues.
The work involves a one-week lane closure:
- Eastbound closed, Monday, June 15 through Friday, June 19:
The eastbound travel lane will be closed, all hours all days, between NE 47th and 59th avenues. The westbound travel lane will remain open. Eastbound traffic will be directed to a signed detour via NE Glisan Street.
Crews will remove and replace the asphalt and base layer below the road surface, major maintenance work that requires significant time. The fresh pavement and recently installed sidewalks and traffic signals are all part of the bureau's $9.7 million NE 60th Avenue and HalseyStreet Area Improvement Project. The project is improving safety on NE Halsey, a high crash corridor, and improving pedestrian access to bus and MAX light rail stops in the area. Modern traffic signals will be adjustable to ease traffic through the area as well.
Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Detours will remain in place overnight throughout construction.
Travelers should expect delays, proceed with caution, follow directions from flaggers, and use alternate routes when possible. Local access to homes and businesses will be maintained. Sidewalks will remain open for pedestrians at all times.
People driving through the area should stay on the detour route. It is designed to direct travelers to major area roadways that can handle larger amounts of traffic -- and reduce the impact on residential streets in the area.
The area is served by TriMet bus Line 77. Public transit will be detoured around the construction zone. Riders should checkTriMet.org for updates.
