Sidewalks were open at all times as PBOT crews worked to repave NW 23rd Avenue earlier this month. Similar work starts on SE 41st Avenue, a neighborhood greenway by Richmond Elementary School, next week. Photo by PBOT.

(May 15, 2026) The paving season continues for the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT), as crews will start grinding and repaving an estimated 0.8 lane miles on SE 41st Avenue, between SE Woodward and SE Grant Court on Wednesday, May 20.

The work is funded by Fixing Our Streets, Portland's voter-approved 10-cent gas tax and heavy vehicle use tax for fixing our streets and making them safer for all.

This neighborhood greenway is popular for people on bikes and other non-motor vehicles. The corridor connects travelers to Richmond Elementary School as well as businesses and housing on the busy SE Division Street area.

More work is on the way!

A PBOT contractor will be repaving SE Division Street from SE Cesar Chavez Blvd to SE 50th Avenue in the Summer of 2026 for the SE Division Street Repaving Project

PBOT began constructing corner ramps in the summer of 2024. This work was complete in the summer of 2025. Repaving is currently scheduled to begin in July of 2026. Total construction time for repaving is expected to be approximately 10 weeks. This schedule is tentative and may change, so please check the project website for updates.

What to expect during repaving on SE 41st Ave

Sidewalks will remain open at all times for pedestrians.

The maintenance paving crews expect to work from about 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays. Crews will complete one travel lane before starting on the next. The work is expected to be completed by Wednesday, May 27.

The traveling public is advised to expect delays, travel cautiously, observe all closures and directions by flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible.  Local access to residences and businesses will remain available.

This work is weather-dependent, and the schedule may change.
