(July 29, 2025) The Portland Bureau of Transportation's (PBOT) safety and maintenance upgrade of 82nd Avenue continues, with extensive repairs at the intersection of SE 82nd Avenue and Division Street beginning next week. These repairs will provide new, smooth pavement and replace failing sections of roadway. The work is expected to have significant traffic impacts.

This phase of work starts on Monday, August 4 and is expected to complete on Saturday, August 16.

Raimore Construction will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. On two Fridays, August 8 and August 15, contractors will complete their work at night, starting at 8 p.m. and finishing at 5 a.m. the following day.

During this period of construction, one lane of traffic on SE 82nd Avenue will be open in each direction. The traffic signal at SE 82nd Avenue and Division will be turned off and flaggers will direct traffic through the intersection. Drivers traveling north and south on 82nd Avenue will be able to travel straight or turn right at the intersection. Left turns from SE 82nd Avenue to Division Street will not be permitted during working hours.

Raimore Construction will begin work on the west side of the street. When complete, they will shift to working on the east side of the street.

The existing pavement on NE/SE 82nd Avenue is severely deteriorated in these sections, with cracking and water infiltration that extends below the surface of the roadway.

One lane in each direction on 82nd Avenue will remain open during construction. People driving, biking and taking transit on SE 82nd Avenue can expect delays, especially during the morning and evening commutes.

Driveway access will be impacted temporarily during outer lane excavation and paving, and contractors will coordinate with individual businesses to limit driveway access disruptions. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

What to expect during construction

  • This summer, the public can expect travel lane closures on 82nd Avenue and full closures of side streets that intersect 82nd Avenue.
  • Work hours for the current period of work at SE Division will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday and nighttime work 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday
  • At least one travel lane in each direction and adjacent businesses on 82nd Avenue will remain open during construction, but the traveling public is advised to expect delays. People closest to the work zone can expect dust, noise, vibrations, and heavy equipment in the area, including road sweepers cleaning the street to remove construction debris.
  • Travelers should expect delays, travel cautiously, observe all closures and directions by flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible.
  • Public transit riders should check the TriMet website for service impacts.
  • PBOT will provide periodic updates throughout construction. To sign up for construction updates by email or text message, visit the project website.
