(Oct. 24, 2025) The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) and Multnomah County Library are excited to announce the winners of the 2025 Bike to Books Design Contest. The contest returned this year and was bigger than ever! Portlanders got creative and submitted a plethora of four-legged creatures on bikes. From feline friends and arctic birds, to smiling stuffed animals and even Portland's favorite skyscraper... This year's winning designs showcase Portland's whimsy and weird.
This year, adults were also invited to join Multnomah County youth to try their hand at designing original art for Portland bike lanes, and they did not disappoint. In all, over 350 unique designs were submitted by artists, Pre-K - adults, from across the county.
The program celebrates National Bike Month in May, inviting Multnomah County residents to design art for local bike lanes. Winners were selected from each of the four age categories: Pre-K to 2nd grade, 3rd to 6th grade, 7th to 12th grade, and adults. PBOT and Multnomah County Library staff reviewed and voted on all the entries.
Grand prize winners will have their art installed on Portland bike lanes and along low-traffic streets known as neighborhood greenways. PBOT's street striping crews do all the installations. Learn more about how the street art is installed using thermoplastic and propane torches in this video.
