(Sept. 26, 2024) - The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is repaving the travel lanes and adding safety improvements to NE Killingsworth Street from 53rd Ave to Cully Boulevard, today and Friday. The traveling public should expect lane closures and delays on NE Killingsworth Street and side streets near the work zones.

This is part of the Killingsworth Street - Repaving and Safety Improvements Project. See more information at the project website also enEspañol.

Safety features include upgrading corner ramps to meet current ADA standards, improved crossings, a new median island, and parking protected bike lanes. 

Construction will take place in phases. PBOT will be repaving the travel lanes on Sept. 26 and 27. The safety upgrades will be constructed in the spring of 2025. 

Repaving will be completed in four sections and driveways will be temporarily closed while these sections are being paved:

Sept. 26: South Side of Killingsworth
53rd to 60th - 7am to 1pm 
60th to Cully - 11am to 5pm 

Sept. 27: North Side of Killingsworth
Cully to 60th - 7am to 1pm
60th to 53rd - 11am to 5pm  

This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if needed.

Work hours 

Typical work hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. In order to complete repaving in two days crews may slightly extend their hours. 

What to expect during construction   

  • Construction creates noise, vibration and dust.   
  • Construction activities may impact neighborhood activity and normal use of driveways or business entrances.  Advanced notification of impacts to adjacent property owners and residents has been provided.   
  • Expect traffic delays in and near the work area. Please observe traffic control signs and follow the directions of flaggers.  
  • On‐street parking will be temporarily restricted in and near the work zones to create a safe work environment and to stage equipment and materials.   
  • Some equipment and materials may be stored in the public right-of-way overnight.

We ask the public to travel slowly and cautiously in the work zones, observe all directions by flaggers and use alternate routes if possible.
