(Sept. 20, 2022) Crews from the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) reopened NW Everett Street between 11th and 12th avenues this morning, more than a week earlier than expected. The road, a key corridor for the Pearl District and the Northwest Portland area, was closed Sept. 12 and was expected to remain closed to vehicle traffic for about two weeks, through about Sept. 28.

PBOT would like to thank the management of Oven & Shaker restaurant, which has a Healthy Business permit for on-street dining space at 1134 NW Everett St, for their cooperation. The sinkhole undermined the street very close to the outdoor dining space, and the restaurant was able to move its materials to make way for heavy equipment needed to make the repairs.

PBOT engineers and Maintenance Operations staff assessed the scope of the sinkhole and found a cavity approximately 8-feet by 10-feet wide and 4 feet deep. The location was marked with white paint and surrounded by fencing to block it off.

PBOT crews repaired the sewer lines and repaved the street to make it safe to reopen to the traveling public.

In addition to improving sidewalks, building bike lanes, and fixing potholes did you know PBOT has an entire team dedicated to sinkhole and sewer repair? Our sewer team takes on an array of job duties every day, including inspecting sewer lines to prevent sinkholes from happening. Watch how PBOT's Sewer Crew works to inspect sewer lines while minimizing any traffic delays for the traveling public.
