(Sept. 1, 2022) Starting Tuesday, Sept. 6, construction crews will make pedestrian and bikeway improvements at the intersection of NE Seventh Avenue and Tillamook Street, requiring the area to be closed to motor vehicle traffic for four-to-six weeks. The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) looking to improve the link between the NE Tillamook Street Neighborhood Greenway and NE Seventh Avenue, which connects people to the newly-opened Congressman Earl Blumenauer Bicycle Bridge.
To increase visibility and safety for people walking, biking, and rolling through the area, a traffic circle and tree will be removed. The intersection of NE Seventh Avenue and Tillamook Street will be reconfigured to include marked crosswalks and bikeways.
As construction continues through early October, people driving motor vehicles should avoid the area. Use alternate routes.
During construction, people will be able to bike, walk or use a mobility device through the area.
Everyone traveling in the area should obey traffic control signs and instructions from crews with PBOT contractors working in the area.
Details about closures to motor vehicle access include:
- NE Seventh Avenue Northbound will be closed to drivers at San Rafael Street.
- NE Seventh Avenue Southbound will be closed to drivers traveling at NE Tillamook Street.
- NE Tillamook Street Eastbound will be right turn only onto NE Seventh Avenue for local access. Drivers traveling east on NE Tillamook Street from NE Martin Luther King Boulevard should exercise caution as they approach the work zone.
- NE Tillamook Street Westbound will be closed at NE Seventh Avenue.
The work is weather dependent and the schedule may change.
