(March 24, 2022) Beginning Monday, March 28 the City of Portland’s contractor will be installing stormwater pipes as part of the SW Capitol Highway: Multnomah Village - West Portland project. The work requires closing SW Capitol Highway in both directions between SW Taylors Ferry Road and SW Garden Home Road for two weeks through the end of April. The closure will be in place from Monday through Thursday each week from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The stormwater pipe crew is moving to the northern half of the SW Capitol Highway project area, moving in a southerly direction from the 'Y' intersection at SW 40th Avenue to the area between SW Spring Garden Street and SW Dolph Court. This work includes the excavation and installation of several very deep maintenance holes (nearly 20 feet deep), which will require full road closures.

During closure hours, through traffic will be detoured to SW 48th Avenue at SW Taylors Ferry Road. Residents will continue to have local access to streets, particularly on SW Carson and SW Freeman streets. Please talk to the flagger and they will help you navigate the work zone to reach your home. Outside of construction work hours, access will be restored for northbound traffic on SW Capitol Highway. Work on Friday and Saturday will typically be less active.

On Monday, March 28 and Tuesday, March 29 flaggers will help residents, school and TriMet buses, as well as USPS and garbage trucks to enter the construction zone. From Wednesday, March 30 to the end of April, flaggers will help local residents and service/emergency response vehicles to enter the construction zone. Others will be detoured.

We ask the public to travel cautiously, observe all lane closures and directions by flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible.

This work is weather dependent and the schedule may change.
