Are you interested in learning about Portland’s transportation system? Do you want to help ensure accountability for the Fixing Our Streets transportation safety and maintenance program? If so, please consider this unique volunteer opportunity!
The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is now accepting applications for an interested person to serve a four-year term on the Fixing Our Streets Oversight Committee. The application deadline has been extended until Sunday, January 8.
The Fixing Our Streets Oversight Committee plays an important role in ensuring the accountability of the transportation safety and maintenance program voters approved a 10-cent gas tax in May 2016 and renewed in 2020. The program helps PBOT expand preventive street maintenance that saves money and prevents potholes. It also supports more safe access, sidewalks, traffic signals, streetlights, and bike lanes. The list of projects, construction schedule, and line-by-line budget for the Fixing Our Streets projects are overseen by both PBOT project managers and this appointed oversight body.
If you are interested in volunteering on the Fixing Our Streets Oversight Committee, review the committee volunteer (non-paid) position description and complete the application form. The Oversight Committee membership is intended to represent a cross-section of diverse expertise, skill sets, and background within the transportation community. New members will be appointed based on the committee’s membership needs.

About Fixing Our Streets
Fixing Our Streets is a PBOT program that helps pave streets, fill potholes, improve street lighting, and helps our youngest Portlanders safely walk, bike and roll to school.
In May 2016, Portland voters approved Measure 26-173, a new $0.10 per gallon fuel tax for repairing streets. Four years later, Portlanders resoundingly approved Measure 26-209, a four-year renewal of Fixing Our Streets. PBOT is currently working on completing projects from our Fixing Our Streets 2020-2024 project list.
Fixing Our Streets funds programs such as our Gravel Streets Service, which works on a three-year cycle to repair potholes and ruts in roads that are not maintained by the city. Watch the video below to see how PBOT's Maintenance Operations crews improve these streets throughout Portland.
