(Aug. 26, 2021) Zebras? Hiding in East Portland? It’s true! And it’s all part of the Go By Greenways game, launching in East Portland.
Go By Greenways is a scavenger hunt game that you can play while exploring two newly completed neighborhood greenways and other improvements in East Portland. The 150s Neighborhood Greenway runs north and south between SE Powell Blvd and NE Halsey St connecting 3.7 miles of low traffic streets and multi-use paths. The 130s Neighborhood Greenway runs north and south along numbered avenues near the 130s in East Portland, providing an easy, continuous way to bike, walk or roll from the I-84 path to SE Foster road, and a calmer alternative to the busier 122nd Avenue. Additionally, new sidewalk and bike lane sections were added along SE 136th Avenue. View a Go By Greenways google map here.
Walking, strolling, rolling or cycling on neighborhood greenways are great ways to exercise and get around as we continue to navigate safely opening from Covid-19. Greenways are low traffic, slow speed limit streets where bicycles, pedestrians and neighbors are given priority. They connect neighborhoods, parks, shopping centers, restaurants and more so you can leave the car at home. PBOT is in a multi-year process of building 25 miles of new neighborhood greenways in East Portland. The Go By Greenways game is designed to encourage East Portlanders to explore the 130s and 150s greenways and improvements on 136th Avenue, and experience these new community amenities firsthand.
Playing the Go By Greenways game is easy:
- Explore the Go By Greenways map to see where you can find the PBOT Zebra along the greenways and at nearby businesses.
- Walk, bike, or roll in the greenways to find the PBOT Zebra sign. Don’t forget to wear a mask and stay 6 ft apart!
- Text the key word on the sign to 888-520-0526, and you're automatically entered to win prizes!
- Find more zebras to earn more entries.
Participants will be entered to win two grand prize $500 grocery gift cards. Players will also be eligible to win prizes from local businesses in the neighborhoods around the greenways. We will be doing weekly drawings for prizes until the game ends on September 26, 2021. As you play, share the fun with your friends and neighbors by tagging #GoByGreenways on social media!
