(April 3, 2020) Beginning Monday, April 6, contractors with the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) will resume construction on a Fixing Our Streets paving project on SW Capitol Highway between Multnomah Boulevard and Texas Street. Construction is proceeding with modifications to allow for social distancing and the safety of crew members.
Construction will take place weekdays between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. with possible night and weekend work. Contractors will reconstruct the intersection at SW Capitol Highway at 35th Avenue, as well as begin sewer work between SW 32nd Avenue and Texas Street in coordination with the Bureau of Environmental Services, and then grind and pave SW Capitol Highway from 32nd Avenue to Texas Street. The construction is weather dependent and will last for a period of approximately four weeks.
Prior to the current Covid-19 state of emergency, the intersection reconstruction at SW Capitol Highway and 35th Avenue was scheduled as nighttime work. In the interest of the health and safety of our contracted crews, this work will instead be completed during the day.
On‐street parking may be restricted in and near the work zones to create a safe work environment and to stage equipment and materials. PBOT is coordinating closely with the Multnomah Village Business Association and businesses operating take-out and delivery services to ensure short-term parking is available.
Local access to all properties will be maintained, but construction activities may impact normal use of your driveway or entrance to your business during certain periods of construction.
Special note regarding Covid-19 and construction work
PBOT has been in modified operations since March 17 and has implemented specific measures to ensure the safety of our crews and contractors. This includes modified shifts, social distancing, and other precautions based on current guidelines from local, state, and federal health officials. Thank you for giving our crews the space and time they need to keep our city moving.
