(May 3, 2018) – The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the traveling public that street maintenance will require lane closures and a detour of eastbound traffic on West Burnside Road, near Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, starting Monday, May 7 through Wednesday, May 9.

The work area is located between SW Skyline Blvd and SW Barnes Road.

Eastbound travelers on W Burnside will be detoured south to SW Barnes Road, along the south side of the cemetery, then north at SW Skyline Blvd, to return to W Burnside. Westbound travelers will not be detoured, but are asked to slow down and use caution near the work zone. Expect delays and use alternate routes if possible.

The lane closure and detour are expected to be in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The work is expected to take up to three full days.

The lane closures will allow crews to provide a base repair -- digging down below the road surface, replacing the base and as well as the asphalt at the surface, extending the life of the pavement. Learn more about base repair and other street maintenance techniques at the PBOT web site.

The work area is located near the site of a landslide that occurred in March 2017, and subsequent repaving project, but it is not related to that incident or the repaving.

The public is advised to expect delays and heavy equipment, travel cautiously, and observe all work zone signage.

Streets with ground down surfaces are open for travel. Lane closures are only in effect during project hours. Access will be maintained for businesses and residents during the project.

The traveling public is advised to expect delays while repairs are being made. We ask the public to travel cautiously, observe all lane closures and directions by reader boards and flaggers, and use alternate routes.

This work is weather-dependent and the schedule may change.
