(Dec. 2, 2015) – The Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the traveling public that installation of safety improvements to reduce fatal crashes will require intermittent lane closures on NE Columbia Blvd westbound at NE 33rd Avenue, from Saturday, Dec. 5 to Wednesday, Dec. 23. One lane westbound will always remain open for traffic during work hours.

PBOT crews will install a crash attenuator and jersey barriers to reduce crashes at this location, where there were two fatal crashes earlier this year. The attenuator and barriers will be installed between westbound lanes and the northbound exit ramp. Engineering solutions that reduce crashes are part of the City of Portland’s Vision Zero effort to eliminate fatal and serious injury traffic crashes. During installation, one lane westbound will be closed, and a detour for the ramp to northbound 33rd Drive will be in effect during work hours, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. The public is advised to expect delays, travel cautiously, observe lane closures, use detours and alternate routes if possible.

Advisory message boards are currently in place in the area and will remain during the duration of the project.

The detour route will show travelers how to go from westbound Columbia Blvd to northbound 33rd Drive. The exit ramp from Columbia Blvd westbound to 33rd Drive northbound will be detoured north on NE 21st Avenue, east on NE Riverside Way, to NE 33rd Drive northbound.
