Stay cool... and wear a helmet! The Summer of Safe Riding promotes safety on all wheels. Let's get out and ride, safely!
Getting out for a ride this summer? Make sure you do it SAFELY! Our goal is to promote safe riding across all modes of active transportation, with an emphasis on electric scooters and BIKETOWN bike share. In an effort to increase helmet use across both modes, we're giving out free helmets at select Plaid Pantry stores to anyone who needs one during the first two weeks of June (or while supplies last)!
Safety on Wheels 101
- Wear a helmet - Always protect your most valuable asset... your brain!
- Ride in the road - Sidewalks are for pedestrians. Riding an e-scooter or e-bike on Portland sidewalks is dangerous and illegal. Please, don't do it!
- Lock your e-scooter and/or your bike - End your ride by locking up your vehicle and ensuring the pedestrian path is clear and safe for all sidewalk users.
- Stay alert - Just because you can see drivers, doesn't mean they can see you. Make eye contact when turning or crossing the street!
- Ride predictably - Need to change lanes or stop abruptly? Let other road users know! Whether in a motor vehicle or on active transportation, being predictable is always a good way to protect yourself and others.
How to Ride Workshops
What: PBOT's Transportation Wallet team, in partnership with BIKETOWN and Lime, are hosting How To Ride workshops! For anyone interested in learning how to ride e-bikes, standing e-scooters, or seated e-scooters, this workshop is for you!
Where: They will take place at the Electric Blocks on SE 2nd St between SE Clay and SE Market streets in a dedicated car-free area to create a safe place.
When: Wednesday, June 3rd from 11AM-1PM, or on Saturday, June 6th, 12PM-2PM.
Preparation: Bring your own helmet and have the BIKETOWN and Lime applications downloaded on your phone to participate. Must be 18 or older to participate.
