After completing a thorough Request for Proposal process the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is excited to announce that Nomad Cycles PDX has been awarded the contract to operate BIKETOWN's adaptive bike rental fleet. We are very excited to have Nomad Cycles as a part of our BIKETOWN team!
Adaptive BIKETOWN is a partnership between the PBOT and Nomad Cycles, providing adaptive bike rentals for those living with a disability or can't ride the traditional 2-wheeled BIKETOWN e-bikes. Adaptive BIKETOWN is funded by the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefit Fund (PCEF).

Meet Nomad Cycles PDX
Nomad Cycles is a Portland-based bicycle shop specializing in electric bikes, adaptive cycling solutions, e-bike conversions, and e-bike repair. For more than a decade, Nomad has helped riders of all ages and abilities experience the freedom, independence, and joy that cycling can provide. Nomad Cycles is proud to serve as the steward of Adaptive BIKETOWN, expanding access to adaptive cycling opportunities for people of all abilities throughout Portland.
We can't express our gratitude enough for this community's patience and participation in Adaptive BIKETOWN 2.0's launch. Our team cannot wait to get this ride season started and see what Nomad Cycles does for the community in adding Adaptive BIKETOWN to their already impressive offerings.

Start of 2026 Season Schedule
Nomad Cycles got the keys to the Red Barn (1945 SE Water Ave., Bldg B Portland, OR 97214) Exciting!
For the next couple of weeks, they will be performing safety checks on their fleet of adaptive bikes (generously donated by Kerr Bikes!), they will also be setting up some basic business essentials and making the space a bit more comfortable for their staff and customers.
Starting June 15 - July 15, 2026, they will be operating on an appointment only basis to allow their team extra time to fulfill some outstanding asks from the community and further establish the offerings in the new space! If you want to schedule an appointment you can email the Nomad team at adaptive@nomadcyclespdx.com.
Starting Thursday July 16, 2026, Nomad will have official open hours where riders can make a reservation for their bike rentals as well as taking walk-ins!
We will have more specifics at the end of June regarding their hours of operation, program offerings, and how to access Adaptive BIKETOWN!

- July 19, 2026, Participating at BIKETOWN's Ten-Year Anniversary Ride starting at 8:30 am at the Salmon Street Springs Fountain– Save the Date!
- August 25, 2026, outside of PCC and Multnomah County's Fernhill Clinic on NE 42nd Ave and NE Killingsworth
