E-Bike GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Attempt

Register for Portland's record-breaking e-bike ride!

Can Portland break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS^TM title for the largest electric bicycle party and ride in the world? 

On July 19, as a way to celebrate BIKETOWN's 10th birthday, you'll get to find out and be a part of it.

We will be making Portland history by attempting to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the largest electric bicycle party and ride, which is currently held by a bike club in Seattle (!!!) with 405 e-bikes.

BIKETOWN, Portland's bike-share system was founded ten years ago on July 19, 2016. As electric bikes increased in popularity across the U.S. in 2020, BIKETOWN became an all-electric fleet. Today, Portlanders use e-bikes as a viable transportation mode to the store, work, and to drop off their kids at school. In PBOT's 2025 Bike Count, e-bikes made up 24% of bike trips. Additionally, in 2026, the Portland Clean Energy and Community Benefits Fund (PCEF) launched Portland Rides, an e-bike rebate program that prioritizes people living on low-incomes.

We know we have what it takes to make history, break the record, and beat Seattle. What better way to celebrate 10 years of BIKETOWN and Portland as a biking city than to be a part of it.

Everyone is welcome to join in on the slow and celebratory ride, including personal e-bikes and pedal bikes.

Register to be included in the official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS attempt

Registration is strongly encouraged to ensure you are counted in the record-breaking attempt. Register at the links below and note that you will need to enter your e-bike make and model (during step 1).

1. Register for Portland's record-breaking e-bike ride and party!
2. Then fill out the 10-second GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS form to ensure you're part of the official count!
   • A QR code will be emailed to you upon submitting the 10-second form (no app download needed), which you will present at the ride 

No e-bike? No problem. While the limited number of BIKETOWN e-bikes available at the ride start have been claimed, we welcome you to check out a bike from a BIKETOWN station elsewhere in the city and bring it to the ride. Please be aware it may take longer than usual to find an available bike due to the many events taking place in Portland on 7/19. You must be 16+ to ride BIKETOWN.

Pedal bikes are welcome to join in on the fun as well! Please know that only e-bikes will be counted toward the record-breaking attempt.

The ride

Check-in starts at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, July 19 and the ride will start at 9:30 a.m. Arrive early to check-in, get your bib, and be ready to ride!

The ride will start at Naito Parkway and SW Salmon and is 2 miles long taking place mostly on the Waterfront and Eastbank Esplanade.

This is not your typical social ride as large participation is the goal. Expect a fun and festive ride with some stops. 

Costumes are encouraged! Ride with pride and wear an individual or group costume to celebrate and for a chance to win prizes (like an annual BIKETOWN membership!).  

Stay on the route to be counted. Look out for pedestrians and other bikes so that everyone can travel safely and comfortably.

After the ride

The ride will conclude back at its starting point (Naito Parkway and SW Salmon) where we will celebrate with music, vendors, refreshments, remarks from City of Portland and BIKETOWN partners, and an official Guinness World Records judge verifying that Portland has set a new world record (fingers crossed!). Stick around to find out!

After we celebrate, head down to the Portland Pride Parade and Festival! Thanks to BIKETOWN's founding partner and title sponsor, Nike, the first 1,000 people who register for the ride will receive free entry to the Pride Festival to enjoy a full day of celebrating. Be sure to keep your bib! It will be your entry to the Pride Festival.

Hosting the world's largest e-bike ride and party isn't easy, which is why we're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make it happen.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a world record attempt. Whether you're welcoming  participants, helping guide riders, capturing photos, or serving as a Ride Steward, every volunteer contributes to a successful world record attempt. You'll have the opportunity to let us know which volunteer role you'd most like to fill, along with any other roles you'd be happy to help with.

Volunteers are needed in a variety of roles, including:

• Event Support: Registration + Finish
• Route Monitors
• Ride Stewards (ride with participants during the official record attempt)
