This project will improve conditions pedestrians and people biking by reducing vehicle speeding, reducing auto traffic volumes, upgrading crossings of busy streets, and creating new connections to existing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure on or near SW and NW 20th Ave.

What's Happening Now

Construction of Phase 2 is on hold until building construction on SW 16th and 17th Avenues, and SW Alder Street are substantially completed.

Project Background and Description

Phase 2 - In Construction

From SW Mill Street Terrace to SW Alder Street using SW 18th, 17th, and 16th Avenues. See the overview map for details.

  • Neighborhood greenway on SW 18th and SW 17th from SW Mill Street Terr to SW Madison. (Construction completed)
  • Buffered bike lanes on SW 17th and SW 16th from SW Salmon to SW Alder (Some blocks are completed; awaiting private building construction to complete).
  • Two-way bicycle facility on SW Alder from SW 17th to SW 16th (Awaiting private building construction to complete.)

Phase I - Complete

20 mph sign (with neighborhood greenway)

Completed project elements include speed bumps, signage, and pavement markings. Paint and post curb extensions at NW Everett, Lovejoy and Northrup installed. Curb extension and crosswalk at NW Glisan and NW 20th installed. Installation of traffic operation changes to protect the neighborhood character of NW 20th Ave at NW Raleigh and NW 20th restricting north-south access and NW Everett and NW 20th restricting north-bound access.

Project Funding

The project is partially funded by $200,000 from the Fixing Our Streets initiative. Other funding sources are needed to accomplish the full plan.
