On Dec. 3, the Auditor’s Office, which houses the City Elections Division, shared this press release: Exit Poll - Portland voters were well informed on ranked-choice voting. The purpose of the poll was to learn how voters engaged with, understood, and experienced Portland’s first ranked-choice voting election. While a promising start, the poll indicates there is significant work to do to engage systematically excluded communities in Portland. More information related to the poll, analysis, and next steps in the elections process are available to review on the Elections Division’s website.
This year, as a part of the larger transition, the transition team undertook voter education in conjunction with the City Elections Division and is seeking community feedback on that process, separate from the above poll. The feedback collected as a part of this survey will be used to evaluate this year’s voter education efforts and may inform future voter education efforts, which will be overseen by the City Elections Division going forward. The City of Portland Voter Education Feedback Survey closes on Jan. 6. The results of this survey will be included in a final voter education close-out report by the City’s Transition Team. The report will include recommendations and best practices based on the feedback and is slated for completion in spring 2025.
On Dec. 18, per city code, the current City Council will certify the Nov. 5, 2024 election results. The Auditor’s Office will also present their preliminary data analysis in more detail then. Review the Dec. 18 council agenda and watch the presentation when it is broadcast live.
The Dec. 18 meeting is also the last council meeting of the year, and it will be held in the newly renovated council chambers.
