Virtual Listening Session: Draft Recommendations to Future City Leaders on Community Engagement - August 1, 2024

Join the Government Transition Advisory Committee for a virtual listening session that includes an educational presentation followed by small group discussions. Note: this meeting was converted from an in-person to virtual meeting.

At this listening session, the Government Transition Advisory Committee and Transition Team invites your thoughts on draft recommendations to city leaders on key topics such as accessing city councilors, participating in City Council decision-making, participating in the City’s budget process, and setting up new Council Committees.

Draft recommendations are based on peer city research, our own experiences and discussions with each other and City staff, prior work by the City, and early community engagement. 

You are invited to share your feedback on these recommendations in a listening session, through an online survey, or by emailing transition@portlandoregon.gov by Monday, August 12 at 11:59p.m.

  • Welcome and introductions (5 minutes)
  • Community education presentation and interactive polling (25 min)
  • Small breakout group discussions (45 min)
  • Closing (10 min)

How your input will be used

We expect our recommendations to evolve based on your feedback. The final recommendations will be given to the newly elected mayor, city council, and administrative leadership in the fall of 2024.

Who is the Government Transition Advisory Committee?

The GTAC is a group of Portlanders appointed by the mayor and city council in March 2023. GTAC acts as the primary community engagement and advisory body for Portland’s government transition.

What is the Summer of Civic Engagement?

The Government Transition Advisory Committee (GTAC) and Transition Team are hosting a series of events between June and October and amplifying opportunities to get involved in shaping how our city government will work for more Portlanders.

Please note that a quorum of Government Transition Advisory Committee members may be present. 

To help ensure that community members can observe these meetings, the City of Portland will provide ASL interpretation, closed captioning and Spanish interpretation.  If there are other ways we can help you more fully participate in this process, please contact June Reyes, june.reyes@portlandoregon.gov.
