Public Hearing on District Plan Criteria
The Independent District Commission, the 13-member independent community body tasked with preparing and adopting a plan to divide Portland into four geographic districts, wants to hear from you!
The District Commission wants to hear your thoughts on whether any additional plan criteria should be considered, in addition to the voter-approved district criteria in the charter.
Public hearing information:
The Independent District Commission held a virtual public hearing on Wednesday, March 22nd, from 6-8pm for community members to share their thoughts! The public hearing included an educational presentation on the Independent District Commission work and process. Community members had 3 minutes to share their thoughts testimony in any language. Voter approved charter criteria:
Will be contiguous and compact
Use existing geographic or political boundaries
Not divide communities of common interest
Be connected by transportation links
Be of equal population
Districts may not be drawn for the purpose of diluting the voting strength of any language or ethnic minority group
Districts may not be drawn for the purpose of favoring any political party
