Green business certification (on hold)

NOTICE: We are not currently certifying businesses. We encourage businesses to use the applications below as guides for sustainable business practices. Please contact us if you have questions or need assistance.

30 minutes - 1 hour to complete the application form. More time if additional action is needed to earn additional points.

  1. Request an application

When contacting us, please let us know:

    • Which application you'd like: Office, Restaurant, Retail, or Grocery.
    • Your email address if you'd like a PDF application emailed to you.
    • Or, your physical address, if you'd like us to send a paper application by mail.
  2. Fill out application

PDF: Save the PDF application to your desktop and open it with the most recent version of Adobe Reader.

Warning: Using outdated versions of Adobe Reader may cause your work not to be saved properly.

Paper: Follow the instructions on the printed form.

  3. Get help

Contact a Sustainability Adviser with questions or to get suggestions for how to earn higher levels of certification.

  4. Submit your application

    1900 SW Fourth Avenue
    Suite 7100, 7th floor
    Portland, OR 97201
    Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  5. Site visit

A Sustainability at Work adviser will contact you within two business days of receiving your application to schedule a one-hour site visit.

The adviser will review the completed application with you and may ask for evidence or documentation of practices they cannot see on site.

  6. Certification awarded

Once we've verified your level of certification, we will send you a digital icon for your website, a window cling for your front door, and a certificate or plaque to display in your workplace.

We will also create a listing for your organization in our green business directory.

Your certification lasts for three years. At the end of that period, your business will need to submit a new application and meet the latest program standards for renewal.
