Volunteer at the Cully event
Volunteering is a great way to participate in the event and support Sunday Parkways. Each shift only lasts 3.5 hours so you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the celebration, and you'll receive a free commemorative t-shirt!
Northeast Cully route
This year's route meanders along neighborhood greenways and crosses a few business districts, most notably on Northeast 42nd and Alberta. The route rises significantly as one travels from North to South, so if it gets a bit taxing, take a break and drink some water! And when you are dropping down those hills, make sure to monitor your speed - and check your brakes!
And remember there is no starting or finishing point - you can hop on wherever you like!

Prepare for street closures
Streets along the route will be closed to motorized traffic for the day with limited access only for people living on the route. There will be designated crossing points for motorized traffic, but it is best to avoid driving in the area during the event as you will experience long delays. Intersections will have temporary barricades with volunteers monitoring them to help people get where they need to go.
Adaptive Bike Ride
Sunday Parkways is hoping to organize one of the biggest adaptive bike rides in the city! In conjuntion with Adaptive BIKETOWN, Kerr Bikes, Adaptive Sports Northwest and Shriner's Hospital for Children, riders and friends will meet at 1 p.m. on the corner of Northeast Ainsworth Street and Northeast 37th Avenue and take a lap around the northwest loop of the Sunday Parkways route. You don't need an adaptive bike to join us. We will have a full fleet of adaptive bicycles on hand so anyone of any ability can join us! Contact Tom Haig at Adaptive BIKETOWN for information.
Features along the route
Parks
Portland Parks and Recreation believes that sustaining a healthy park and recreation system makes Portland a great place to live, work and play. Sunday Parkways is an excellent way to get to know our Portland city parks. Whether you are coming in from another corner of town, or simply enjoying the care-free and car-free atmosphere of Sunday Parkways in your neighborhood, you're sure to find something new.
The Northeast Cully route will pass through the following parks. Click on the specific park's link for all necessary information about facilities, accessibility, picnic permits and more. Be advised that most of the parking lots will be used for Sunday Parkways events and will not be available for parking.
- Fernhill Park
- Kʰunamokwst Park
- Wellington Park
- Roseway Parkway - Although not technically a park, it is a nice grassy boulevard that Sunday Parkways will be taking advantage of this year. There are no facilities on the parkway.
New and improved roadways and sidewalks
As you're riding along the Northeast Cully route, keep your eyes out for recently completed projects from The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) to make streets safer and more welcoming to bikes, pedestrians and all non-motorized traffic.
- NE Simpson Neighborhood Greenway - The northernmost section of the Sunday Parkways event shows off the NE Simpson Neighborhood Greenway, which was completed in 2018. For safety, the project added stop signs where previously there was no stop sign for any direction. At intersections, the city installed no parking signs near intersections to improve visibility for greenway users and drivers. Sunday Parkways attendees will get to see the new crossing at NE 42nd Ave that makes it safer and easier to cross the busy street. Lastly, the greenway includes additional speedbumps to help keep speeds low and comfortable for all users.
- New sidewalks on Killingsworth & Prescott - On the north/south portion of the route look for new sidewalks that were added on NE Killingsworth and NE Prescott streets! These sidewalks offer new, safe options for residents of the Cully neighborhood. The project also includes corner ramps that are ADA accessible and helpful for people with strollers or other accessories.
- Newly paved roads on NE 55th/57th & Killingsworth - As recently as 2021, streets in the area around NE 55th – 57th & Killingsworth were gravel. Today, they are freshly paved and accessible for people using any mobility mode.
- NE 60th Ave Alternative Walkway - On NE 60th Ave, PBOT added a curb-protected walkway and speedbumps to slow traffic offering safe travel options for people outside of cars.
Sharrows and expanded bike crossings (in green) designate a neighborhood greenway on Northeast 42nd and Simpson.
