Fitness Take Over with Keyonda McQuarters

Well known Portland bicycling advocate, leader of the Portland Black Girls Do Bike chapter and Forge Hot Yoga Alberta District Fitness coach will be joining us this week as the Sunday Parkways Fitness Takeover Host. This week she will lead us through three exercises, HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), a vinyasa yoga flow, and a yin yoga flow.

HIIT: High Intensity Interval Training is a cardio session arranged as short bursts of very hard work. The whole point of high-intensity training is to kick up the intensity of your cardio. We will use intervals of 20/10. You will need to push yourself to the max for 20 seconds during every set. We will use 10 seconds to rest and reset.

Vinyasa Yoga Flow: In this style of yoga we will string together a series of postures, connecting breath and movement. We will flow through a series of postures, building heat in the body, as we focus on increasing both strength and flexibility. 

Yin Yoga: A slow paced style of yoga, in which we hold asanas (postures) for 3-5 minutes. Yin yoga stretches and targets both the deep connective tissues between the muscles, and the fascia throughout the body. The aim is to increase circulation in the joints and improve flexibility.
