The Sunday Parkways Downtown route will create a one-way 2.3-mile block party in the heart of the city, showcasing SW Broadway and SW Park Avenue between Oak and Harrison Streets. From Mill Street, the route will highlight the Halprin Sequence, going through Pettygrove Park, continuing to Lovejoy Fountain Park on Harrison Street, and then reconnecting with Broadway.

What to expect on a bike bus

Bike buses are guided rides, and while they are popular for school age children, we invite Portlanders of all ages to join for this special Sunday Parkways Bike Bus edition.

Each of the seven routes will have a ride leader at the front and a "caboose" at the back to help everyone stay together and safe. These volunteers will be wearing Sunday Parkways t-shirts to help identify themselves. These volunteers have practiced riding the route and participating in a ride volunteer training to make sure you experience a safe and family-friendly ride.

Routes were chosen and vetted to highlight safe infrastructure and may include some of the following road conditions:

The streets for these routes will not be closed to other road users like drivers. We ask that participants be prepared to share the road and follow the rules of the road to ensure their own safety. Volunteers will provide guidance at intersections, but safety requires attention from everyone.

We call these bike buses "no drop" rides, which means that no one will be left behind and volunteers will keep the group together. So if your five-year-old wants to bike in from Franklin High School on the Sloth Route, they are welcome to, even if they don't go any faster than a sloth.

Lastly, in partnership with Mike Bennett Studios, we will place the Critters at the designated stop so that you know where to meet with the bike bus. They will be lawn-sign sized. Please "be ready" to leave at the designated time. The bike bus won't leave early, though it may roll out a bit late.

Prepare for street closures

During Portland Sunday Parkways events, streets along the route will be closed to motorized traffic for the day with limited access for people living on the route. There are designated crossing points for motorized traffic, but it is best to avoid driving in the area during the event, as you will experience long delays. The event route’s intersections will have temporary barricades set up with volunteers available to help people get where they need to go.

The Downtown Portland Sunday Parkways route includes designated crossings to allow motorized vehicle access during the event.  Car traffic is permitted to cross the event route at the following major roadways: SW Washington, SW Alder, SW Taylor, SW Jefferson, SW Clay, SW Market, SW Fourth Avenue, SW Fifth Avenue, and SW Sixth Avenue.

TriMet's MAX lines and Portland Streetcar will operate with normal Sunday routes and timing. Traffic flaggers will manage intersections along the event route featuring rail lines.

As part of Sunday Parkways partnership with TriMet, the following bus detours will help riders navigate around the event.  Bus detours are in effect only on Sunday, Sept. 14, starting at 11 a.m. Normal service will resume after 5:30 p.m.
