The 14 candidates for committee membership were unanimously approved by Portland City Council's Community and Public Safety Committee on December 9, 2025.
The resolution that established the Portland Street Response Committee stated that committee membership must be broadly representative of the population of the city of Portland and those most affected by Portland Street Response's operations. It noted that final committee membership must include representation from people with lived experience and with behavioral or mental health issues. Based on what applicants were willing to voluntarily disclose, at least eight of the appointees have lived experience with behavioral and mental health issues.

Committee meetings will begin in January 2026.
Portland Street Response was designed and driven by community support, and the goal of the committee is to give community members an official voice in the program's future. Outreach for applications for committee membership was conducted in all districts. Council offices, the Mayor's office, Portland Street Response, and Friends of Portland Street Response all promoted the committee application process and encouraged people to apply. 85 candidates applied for the 15 positions and the application was open for six weeks.
