Commissioner Ryan's office prioritizes public communication and constituent relations; our staff is dedicated to keeping Portlanders informed, helping them navigate City bureaucracy, responding to concerns, and engaging in dialogue. 

This elected official is listening, learning, and leading.

  • 68 people referred to the Bureau of Development Services in 4 months​.
  • 593 emails sent from the Safe Rest Villages inbox since September.
  • Over 2,000 emails sent from the Commissioner Ryan inbox within the last 6 months.
  • 150 voicemails responded to within the last 2 months.
  • Commissioner Ryan served several shifts as a volunteer at a cooling shelter during the heatwave in the summer of 2021, at a warming shelter in winter 2021, and in January 2022 during the Point in Time count of houseless Portlanders.

  • Met with West Hills Christian School leadership to discuss concerns and partnerships related to the future Safe Rest Village in Multnomah Village.

  • Attended the first annual Night of Remembrance, an evening to honor and remember those who lost their lives on the streets at the Bybee Lakes Hope Center.

  • Rose City Downtown Collective: Community Call with Commissioner Dan Ryan. Commissioner Ryan was guest of the Rose City Downtown Collective for a conversation about Safe Rest Villages and houselessness. (Commissioner Dan Ryan and Safe Rest Villages staff)

  • United in Spirit Summit II on Homelessness –this gathering hosted by the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland, was a community conversation about data and measurable outcomes related to houselessness along with many other elected officials.

  • Commissioner Ryan attended the Portland Public School Board - Facilities and Operations Committee to answer questions about a potential Safe Rest Village site being proposed for a PPS site (former Whitaker Middle School).  Proposal shared with PPS School Board as part of our due diligence process.
