The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is engaging Portlanders to plan how to move goods through the city while meeting our goals for a safe multimodal system that supports economic prosperity, human and environmental health, equity, and resilience.

In July 2021, Portland City Council adopted this plan. It ensures transportation infrastructure and PBOT programs are ADA compliant. As the cost of living continues to rise, Portland faces an urgent need to expand opportunities for affordable housing. This project will support non-profit partners in reaching their affordable housing production goals by reducing zoning designation barriers in priority locations.

The Age- and Disability-Inclusive Neighborhood Project (ADIN) will advance racial and disability equity, increase the availability of age-friendly housing and services in Portland’s neighborhood centers, and develop zoning and planning tools and policies that can be applied throughout the city.

A critical north-south connection and one of Portland’s high-crash corridors, 82nd Avenue is in urgent need of significant investment to improve safety and address maintenance issues. As of June 2022, the state transferred ownership of 82nd Avenue to the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT).

Portland is building a new filtration facility to keep our drinking water safe and abundant for generations to come. Filtration will remove the microorganism Cryptosporidium from the Bull Run supply and must be completed by September 2027 to comply with state and federal water quality regulations.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act provides money and assistance for the Portland community. The City of Portland received $114 million in federal relief funds to distribute throughout the region and address COVID-19's impact on our health, households and small businesses.

Post-pandemic trends continue to show high vacancy rates in downtown and other parts of the Central City. This project will explore creative solutions to promote housing production and business creation and retention in Portland’s Central City.

Central City in Motion represents the Portland Bureau of Transportation's (PBOT) work to plan, prioritize, and implement transportation improvements in the city’s core. PBOT prioritized 18 projects in the plan, including new crosswalks, bus lanes, and bikeways.

City Shelter Services provide an entry point for Portlanders moving from life on the streets to more stability and housing, with services including case management, mental and behavioral health support. We support Alternative Shelters, Overnight Shelters, Day Centers, and outreach.

This initiative works with public, private and nonprofit partners to help Portland’s industrial sector reduce its environmental impact and support local communities and workers.

BPS is engaging with BIPOC Portlanders and renters, as well as commercial and multifamily property owners, to create a proposal that ensures renters of apartment buildings live in healthy, resilient, and safe housing, and large commercial buildings help Portland achieve its climate goals.

City Council declared a climate emergency in 2020 and directed City bureaus to restore a safe climate for all Portlanders, especially communities of color and those most at-risk to impacts of climate change. This Workplan lays out the priority actions we must take over the next three years.

Also called the Columbia-Industrial Ezone Project, this project will adjust the location of environmental overlay zones in the Columbia Corridor and other industrial areas to match the locations of streams, wetlands, sloughs, vegetation and wildlife habitat.

Portland’s commercial waste collection system—serving apartments, businesses, construction, and demolition—produces most of the city’s waste. This project will review the system to ensure it provides high-quality, affordable service and advances climate, equity, and service goals.

This project is a limited term investment to provide centralized, modern data management services to additional City and community priorities, led by BPS and CSD. The initial focus is on improving public safety data accessibility and management. View more information on the project "About" page.
