City of Portland Low-Carbon Concrete Update Process Workshop

Hello,

Many thanks to all who joined the 2025 City of Portland Low-Carbon Concrete Initiative update process kickoff! Many promising themes and ideas emerged thanks to broad participation from City of Portland bureaus, concrete suppliers, contractors, engineers, nonprofits, trade associations, peer agencies, and entrepreneurs working on the cutting edge of this field.

The core objective of this update process is stated in the original requirements for this initiative, i.e. to review and progressively reduce Global Warming Potential (GWP) thresholds over time. Given the many topics that emerged, I will provide an inventory at our first meeting in December as we prioritize our scope and next steps for this update.

Below is the proposed meeting series through the end of this fiscal year. This includes bimonthly meetings to focus on program standard updates, with learning sessions in between:

• December 4: Program update work session (Review scope and initial steps)
• January 8: Learning session (Carbon Star)
• February 5: Program update work session (Alternatives review)
• March 5: Learning session (Carbon Negative Solutions)
• April 2: Standard update (Preferred alternatives)
• May 7: Learning session (BuiltCold)
• June 4: Program update work session (Implementation next steps)

I've reserved Room 203 for this series, which is in the southwest corner of the second floor of the Portland Building (1120 SW Fifth Avenue). When you enter the building from the main entrance on SW Fifth Avenue, you will be able to access the second floor via elevator or the stairs ahead without a badge, although you are welcome to ask for assistance from the front desk or by calling/texting my number listed in my signature line below. Once you are on the second floor, look for the mini Portland Building statue, and you'll find signs pointing to the direction of 203.
