The Residential Infill Project, adopted by the Portland City Council in 2020, allows for more types of houses in single-family neighborhoods in an effort to provide more affordable homes for more people.
The Residential Infill Project provides most owners of single-family homes with options for adding dwelling units, and potential rental income, if they choose.
If you are a homeowner, the Residential Infill Project doesn’t require you to do anything new with your property. You can continue to enjoy your home as it is.
As a homeowner, you may receive phone calls or offers in the mail from those who wish to buy your property and redevelop it. Some of these offers may include cash for your home. These offers may be for less than your home is worth.
You don’t have to sell your house if you don’t want to. If you receive unsolicited offers in the mail to buy your home, you can recycle them. You don’t need to respond.
If you receive unsolicited phone calls or text messages from organizations that offer to buy your home, and you don’t want to sell your home:
- Ask the caller to remove your phone number from their call list.
- Hang up.
- If you can identify the phone number that called or texted you, you can report it to the National Do Not Call Registry.
