PP&R will facilitate a national design competition for the Bowl section of the park, to create a design that includes integration of public river and swim access, habitat restoration, regional events and gatherings, inclusive design, and connections to the trail and downtown.
Bureau of Planning & Sustainability:
Ryan Singer, Principal Planner
Cassie Ballew, City Planner, Urban Design Studio
BPS is working with Mayer/Reed to identify opportunities for urban design interventions and redevelopment along the Central City waterfront of the Willamette River. The opportunities will include housing and economic development of vacant sites, ground floors and upper story offices; activation along key corridors, and phased nodes of activity to enhance connectivity to the waterfront.
Portland Bureau of Transportation:
Art Pearce, Deputy Director – Planning, Projects and Programs
PBOT partnered to organize a Cities of Possibility Downtown to the Waterfront design charrette on June 13 to help city leaders and stakeholders reconsider and reset Central City 2035 goals for the public realm in the post-COVID world. The charrette participants explored possibilities for a transformation of Tom McCall Waterfront Park and the blocks and streets surrounding it, and they envisioned how streets can be repurposed to better serve and emphasize a pedestrian experience.
