For Airbnb hosts having issues with their rental platform after being delisted:

  1. Do you have a valid permit number listed on the City of Portland’s Short-term Rental Registry?
  2. Does the permit number listed in your platform’s advertisement exactly match the number on the Registry?

If the answers to both of these questions are yes and your platform is still having issues getting you listed (or re-listed), the Revenue Division’s Transient Lodging Tax team may be able to help. Please contact that team at TLTax@portlandoregon.gov.

Accessory short-term rental application types

There are two different application types for accessory short-term rentals. Both types require a long-term resident who lives at the property for at least 270 days per calendar year:

  • Type A permits are for when the resident rents no more than 2 bedrooms to 5 overnight guests. Receive more information about the Type A accessory short-term rental permit. For questions about Type A permits, please call 503-823-2633 or send us an email message
  • Type B conditional uses are for when the resident rents between 3 and 5 bedrooms to overnight guests. Receive applications, forms and more information about the Type B accessory short-term rental conditional use. For questions about Type B conditional uses, please call 503-823-7300 to connect with a city planner.

There are limited situations in which the operation of a short-term rental does not require a Type A permit or a Type B conditional use. These situations apply when the zoning for a property, or the building’s use or occupancy, allows for commercial transient lodging.

Before you apply for a short-term rental

Before you apply for a permit, learn about requirements for short-term rentals in Portland. You'll need to read through the short-term rental webpages in order to complete your application.

Learn more about short-term rental permit requirements:

Search for registered short-term rentals and report unregistered short-term rentals

The City of Portland has a list on Portland Maps of short-term rental permits that are issued and actively going through the review and renewal process. If you need to find a permit number (i.e. application number) for a property, you can review the short-term rental registry.

Properties listed on the short-term registry that are not subject to Type A or Type B ASTR requirements are identified as “Other” in the “Permit Type” column of the short-term rental registry. These properties are placed on the short-term registry by the Revenue Division in the Office of Management and Finance. Questions regarding these listings should be directed to the Revenue Division at TLTax@portlandoregon.gov or 503-865-2857.

Permits that have an “In Review” permit status are complete applications pending city review. While in this status, the location can be rented per the short-term rental regulations. If the property is not located on this registry, then a complete application needs to be submitted to start the permit process. Please see the information provided above on how to submit a short-term rental permit application.

If you think a short-term rental is operating without a permit, please report the violation.
