On Saturday, August 29, 2026, and Sunday August 30, 2026, members from PPB's North Precinct, East Precinct, the Traffic Division, Canine Unit, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Unit and Multnomah County Sheriff's Transit Division conducted a special mission to address illegal driving behaviors. Officers focused on looking for drivers involved in illegal street racing, reckless driving, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) and other dangerous driving behavior throughout the City of Portland.
On Saturday, illegal street racing activity was occurring on the main highways throughout Portland. Officers observed groups racing at high speeds and performing roadway blocking and slowdown maneuvers to create space for racing activity. Officers responded to address these incidents.
On Sunday, multiple individuals were stopped for driving more than 100 miles per hour, DUII, illegal street racing and other dangerous driving behavior.
One vehicle contacted in the area of I-205 and Southeast Stark Street, was found to contain a pound and a half of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other illegal narcotics.
Enforcement Summary:
- Approximately 50 to 60 traffic stops were initiated
- One vehicle seized for street racing and eluding police. The driver was arrested and a firearm was seized.
- Numerous citations were issued; four drivers cited for more than 100 miles per hour
- 12 vehicles were towed
- 8 vehicles eluded police
- 7 drivers were arrested
- 2 firearms were recovered
- 2 groups related to street racing were disrupted
Portland Police will continue efforts to illegal speed racing and street takeovers and other dangerous driving behavior as resources allow.
