The man killed in a shooting in the Buckman Neighborhood on August 29, 2026, has been identified as David R. Lyman Jr, 56, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death, and they are requesting privacy at this time.

The Medical Examiner determined Lyman died of homicide by gunshot wound.

Shooting in the Buckman Neighborhood Leaves 1 Man Deceased, Homicide Detectives Investigating

On Saturday August 29, 2026 at 2:34 a.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to a report of a shooting in the 700 block of Southeast 12^th Avenue. When officers arrived, they located one victim deceased on a sidewalk. 

The suspect or suspects left the scene before police arrived and no immediate arrests were made. 

The Portland Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is investigating the case. During the investigation, Southeast 12^th Avenue is closed between Southeast Morrison Street and Southeast Alder Street. Southeast Morrison Street is closed between Southeast 11^th Avenue and Southeast 12^th Avenue.
