A pedestrian is deceased following a crash in the South Tabor Neighborhood.

On Saturday, August 8, 2026, at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers assigned to the Portland Police Bureau's East Precinct responded to reports of a crash in the area of Southeast Powell Boulevard and Southeast 71st Avenue. When they arrived, officers located an adult male pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. First responders provided aid to the victim before he was transported to an area hospital. Unfortunately, the victim died several hours later from injuries sustained in the crash.
A short time after the incident, the driver of the suspect vehicle, identified as Curtis L. Kent, 33, of Portland, returned to the scene where he was arrested. Kent was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) and lodged on the following charges: Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Reckless Driving, DUII, and Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver.
