The driver killed in a crash on June 5, 2026, has been identified as Stephen M. DeWeese, 36, of Lyle, Washington. His family has been notified of his death.

Traffic #ALERT: SE Powell Blvd Closed For Fatal Traffic Crash Investigation

One person is deceased following a two-vehicle crash on Southeast Powell Boulevard at Southeast 56th Avenue, and the PPB Major Crash Team is enroute to investigate. 

On Friday, June 5, 2026 at 7:01 a.m., Portland Police officers assigned to North Precinct responded to a two-vehicle crash at Southeast Powell Boulevard at Southeast 56th Avenue. One of the involved drivers was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Despite lifesaving efforts, the driver died at the hospital. 

The other involved driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. 

The Portland Police Traffic Division Major Crash Team is responding to the scene to investigate the crash. During the investigation, Southeast Powell Boulevard is closed between Southeast 52nd Avenue and Southeast 60th Avenue.

The incident is within East Precinct, however due to the ongoing tactical incident, no East Precinct units were available. North Precinct officers and supervisors responded to assist. The PIO is not responding to the scene. Additional information will be released when appropriate.
