A drunk driver crashed and rolled his car through a light pole and a fence, finally coming to rest against a parked TriMet bus inside a secure parking lot.

On Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 1:51 a.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to East Precinct responded to a report of a crash on the Southeast Powell Boulevard ramp from northbound Interstate-205.
When they arrived, they found a rollover crash involving a 1996 BMW 528 series sedan in the fenced TriMet property in the 9700 block of Southeast Powell Boulevard.
Portland Fire & Rescue and AMR arrived and assessed the two occupants, a 19-year-old male and a 15-year-old female. The car was upside down and required specialized tools to safely extricate the occupants.
At multiple points, paramedics believed that their patients' injuries were possibly life-threatening. But incredible lifesaving efforts by Portland Fire & Rescue and AMR led to both patients being extricated from the overturned vehicle and transported successfully to the hospital. Continued expert medical care at the hospital was performed and both patients were stabilized and are expected to survive their injuries.
The investigation revealed that the driver was northbound on I-205 at a high rate of speed, took the Powell exit, left the roadway, destroyed a light pole, hit a tree, crashed through the fence surrounding the TriMet property, and rolled over into a parked, unoccupied bus. The force of the crash appeared to partially eject the driver from the vehicle, and it very easily could have been a fatality. At this point, there is no indication that any other vehicles were involved in the crash. Evidence indicated possible impaired driving as a factor.
The driver of the sedan, Kyrylo Novikov, 19, of Vancouver, Washington, was criminally cited for DUII, Reckless Driving, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
