The June 16th suspicious death investigation inside a house in the 11900 Block of Southeast Pardee Street has been confirmed to be a homicide, and the investigation is continuing.

The victim is identified as Jian Xiang Zhao, 46, of China. His family has been notified of his death and is requesting privacy.

The medical examiner determined that he died of homicide by gunshot wound.

Suspicious Death Being Investigated in the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood

A suspicious death incident is being investigated in the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood.

On Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 4:36 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct responded to a house in the 11900 Block of Southeast Pardee Street on the report of a suspected death. When officers arrived, they confirmed the death and the suspicious circumstances. 

The Portland Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene to investigate. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner at a later time. 

While the investigation continues, traffic on Southeast Pardee Street between Southeast 118th Avenue and Southeast 120th Avenue will be impacted. If anyone has information about this case and has not already spoken to police, please submit a tip online or call 503-823-0479 and please reference case number 26-174935. 

The PIO is not responding to the scene. Additional information will be released when appropriate.
